Geeze...

...not doing so well in juggling the ol' blog, taking care of a family, and working full time. The blog has cob webs - again, the house is a mess (okay - so that isn't any different than usual) and the pile of papers that need grading keeps growing...

Boo!

On a positive note...

I'll get back to you on that.

On a positive note...I am coming to see you in less than two weeks! So is Anthony, for that matter! How great is that? I bet we could even help you grade papers!

Hey, life is too short to worry about blogging or not. But glad to hear you're okay, just keeping busy!

To grade or not to grade, that is the question.

Probably my least favorite part of being a teacher.

Thanks for letting us know you are alive! I feel your pain.

The big question: are you finding time to run?? ;0)

I have all sorts of bad ideas for you.

One trick to reduce workload is to have students comment on each other's papers in the guise of teaching them effective criticism.

A better trick is to cut back on the assignments for awhile.

A third approach is to give lots and lots of easy assignments designed to teach by process - and just check them off as students hand them in.

I do all three of these things.

I'm not even going to tell you how I clean, or take care of my family. LOL.

Hi, friends!

Aerin - thanks for the reminder. :) Life is too short to worry about how rude and bratty some of my students are too! Public school. It's a labor of love. Or something like that. Except for today when I assigned the naughty class to complete a huge assignment that was due at the end of the period and worth 100points because they refused to shut up. Could have heard a pin drop that last half hour...

lily - yes, I cannot wait to see you (and anthony!).

Dalene - to grade or not to grade...tis nobler in the mind to assign outrageous assignments or to take arms against a sea of troubled ones,in an effort to end them? The great news is that I am getting in some runs this week after taking a running hiatus after the 20 mile trail run. Alas - the marathon is only a week away! My goal: to finish under 4:30. Or: to finish.

Anthony: Great suggestions! Believe it or not, I am already employing all of those methods - except for the "cut back on assigments" thing. I'll need to work on that. :) Lucky for me, someone invented a marker that has a cool paw print stamp on one end. Priceless for marking "completed" assignments.

I think I gave you the same suggestions once before.

Really, that was such a guy response when what you wanted was empathy. Sorry.

Looking forward to seeing you race!

Geez, here it is a week later and I finally notice you've posted. I feel your pain. And am glad to the core of my heart of hearts that I do not teach in a classroom.

I mean, teaching would be a great job if it weren't for the darned students.

Students? How bourgeois.
